Kindergarten Students Connect with Sixth Graders Through Reading | Enroll Now!

Mrs. Vaugn’s Accelerated Kindergarten students received a visit from 6th-grade students, who read to their younger peers and created a memorable experience for everyone! With lots of big smiles, our 6th-grade students helped make reading fun and engaging while modeling confidence and leadership for our Kindergarten classes.

At Playa del Rey Elementary, we love creating opportunities for our students to learn from one another. Our Kindergarten classrooms provide a nurturing, welcoming environment where every child is supported and encouraged to explore, grow, and feel part of a close-knit school community. Our students engage in hands-on learning, small-group activities, and daily routines that help them build academic skills, confidence, and independence. We offer both conventional and Accelerated kindergarten programs. 

Conventional Kindergarten provides rigorous instruction in core academic areas that address the Arizona state standards in reading, writing, math, science, and social studies. Conventional also offers rich opportunities for students that promote positive social skills and character development within a structured learning environment.

Accelerated kindergarten offers students a fast-paced and engaging academic experience for learners who are ready to move quickly through core concepts. While following the same daily schedule as other kindergarten classes, students in Accelerated programs go through the curriculum at a quicker pace and in more depth.

In Accelerated programs, students rotate through hands-on literacy and math stations, work collaboratively in small groups, and engage in project-based activities that integrate science and social studies.
